Very good overview.

You won’t loose your job to AI, just to someone who knows how to use it better!

Owning your stack is self defense for creative people. I would argue that goes even beyond using tools but also to build the tools for expressing creativity. But certainly it's about designing systems that grow: https://open.substack.com/pub/theafh/p/the-extraction-machine-is-running?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=42gt5

That's the next step for me us learning how to get a locally running open source LLM on my phone, just so I have it

It might take some time until AI models that run in a phone are powerful enough but it's not only about AI but the whole stack... 👍🏼

Like boats, cars or houses, there is no ideal AI model. Each one serves a purpose and has its limitations. Thanks for a very insightful article on the differences in AI. You certainly can see the reason for the newer generations of nuclear power plants after seeing Elon’s new AI build.

Definately, China is adding 1 terrawat of power to their grid every two years. We can't be left behind

Really great load down here Matthew on AIs and their use cases. Personally, I mostly use Grok and find it an excellent resource to dive deeper into current events. But I think what’s most striking is just how fast Elon Musk’s xAI was able to “catch up” to OpenAI.

Consider that xAI was founded around the time OpenAI released GPT-4, already the fifth iteration of its AI technology. It took only a few months for xAI to release Grok, which was roughly comparable to GPT-2.

Within a few months, just as OpenAI released GPT-4o, xAI’s Grok-1 roughly matched GPT-3.5, and then just as OpenAI released o1, xAI was already rolling out Grok-2, roughly comparable with GPT-4o.

Now with Grok-3, and soon 3.5, OpenAI and xAI are neck and neck, but as you note, OpenAI clearly has a superior image generator.

Thanks Jk, the way xAI was able to stand up the supercluster in Memphis waa incredible, and owes a lot to their fast scale up

Appreciate you reading as always
